Before being appointed CEO of Muscular Dystrophy Foundation Australia at the end of 2020, Ryan’s career traversed both public and private sector roles.
His public sector experience includes more than a decade’s experience working in senior manager roles across Federal, state and local government agencies. Promoted to the senior executive service in 2013, he has:
- worked in Australian Government roles with the Departments of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, Health and Ageing as well as Families, Housing Community Services and Indigenous Affairs;
- worked in relevant State Government roles – where his experience includes leading the implementation of several individualised funding arrangements for people with disability as a Senior Manager in the Department of Health and Human Services (Victoria).
Alongside his public sector experience, Ryan has around eight years’ experience in management consulting – servicing clients across Australia and internationally. His experience in this context includes holding roles in top tier firms – most recently as a Managing Director with FTI Consulting Inc. and earlier as an Associate Director with Deloitte.

Ryan enjoys working for the benefit of a cause. He considers his role as CEO of the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation – focused entirely on improving the lives of people with neuromuscular conditions – as an enormous privilege.
